I have had a Facebook poet/author page for over a year. Earlier this year I created my YouTube channel, the Village Poet. Videos of my recitals can be found on the channel. Go on to YouTube and follow me. The content is crafted to be accessible and relatable, often infused with a touch of dry humour and a tongue-in-cheek perspective on the world around us. Some poems offer lighthearted moments, while others carry a more reflective or solemn tone. A few even delve into personal experiences, offering glimpses of self-disclosure.
The themes I explore are close to my heart and may strike a chord with you as well. Titles like Sad Old Town and The Darkest Secret speak to the emotional threads we all encounter. My style doesn’t follow the traditional path of the romantic poets like Wordsworth, Southey, Byron, or Coleridge. Instead, I offer a modern voice — one example being The Rhyme of the Modern Matelot, a contemporary echo of Coleridge’s The Rime of the Ancient Mariner. That classic can be a challenging read, so I’ve reimagined it in my own abstract way, inspired by a real-life cruise ship experience that almost took a dramatic turn. Thankfully, thanks to the quick thinking of the captain and crew, we stayed afloat!
I invite you to explore, listen, and hopefully connect with the words I share. Do enjoy — and welcome aboard!
